Your Mac's drive health, temperature and speed in plain language
Description
The SSD in a modern Mac is soldered to the logic board, so when it dies you're replacing the board, yet Disk Utility only ever says "verified". To learn how much life is left, how many terabytes have been written or how hot it runs, you either read hex from smartctl in the terminal or install some ad-laden paid utility.
Aman Disk is a native macOS app that reads S.M.A.R.T. data from internal NVMe and SATA drives and sums it up in plain words: "Healthy", "Needs attention" or "Likely failing", plus the remaining life percentage. Every S.M.A.R.T. attribute gets a readable name and an explanation, with values converted to °C, hours and TB, or shown as raw hex if you prefer.
It never connects to the internet: no telemetry, no update checks, and all data stays on your Mac. It doesn't ask for an admin password and doesn't change your data. Free and open source (MIT), for macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon and Intel, with English and French interfaces.
Health status: NVMe, Apple PCIe AHCI and SATA drives, including Fusion Drive, with a clear verdict and remaining life.
Temperature history: a reading every 30 seconds, full detail for 24 hours and averages for 30 days, charted from 1 hour to 30 days. Each reading adds only about 170 bytes, so it doesn't wear out the drive it watches.
Performance test: sequential and random reads and writes at several block sizes and queue depths, and the test file is always deleted.
Menu bar: status, temperature and the last hour's curve for each internal drive, and it can stay there with the window closed.
Live Dock icon: the ring around the icon follows the startup drive's health.
Alerts: notifications when a drive changes status, stays too hot, or drops below 50%, 25% or 10% life (off by default).
Reports: export to PDF, text or JSON, with the serial number masked by default.
