GPT fdisk

GPT fdisk

Text-mode partitioning tools for GPT disks

Description

You bought a disk bigger than 2 TB, or an MBR partition table has gone bad, and classic fdisk either cannot see it or makes things worse. GPT fdisk is a set of text-mode partitioning tools built for GPT: it runs on Linux, FreeBSD, macOS and Windows, and the tutorial by author Rod Smith explains in detail what GPT is and how to change it.

It is really four programs: gdisk is an interactive command line, cgdisk has a menu-style interface, and sgdisk is meant for scripts, while fixparts repairs damaged MBR tables and converts partitions between primary and logical. It can convert between MBR and GPT without wiping data, and back up and restore partition tables. Free and open source. It is command-line only, with no graphical window, so back up your data before editing partitions.

Features

gdisk:An fdisk-like interactive tool to create, delete and adjust GPT partitions.

cgdisk:A text-menu interface where you pick partitions with the arrow keys.

sgdisk:Non-interactive commands for scripting batch disk work.

fixparts:Repairs common MBR damage and switches partitions between primary and logical.

MBR and GPT conversion:Converts the partition table format without losing data.

Backup and restore:Saves the partition table to a file so you can recover it.
