Description
After two or three years a spinning disk makes a large project take ten seconds to open and file copies stutter, and the built-in Optimize Drives tool shows nothing but a progress bar. Disk SpeedUp lists every volume with capacity, free space and fragmentation, lets you analyze before deciding to defrag, and while it runs a cluster map shows which blocks are fragmented and which have already been moved.
Besides whole volumes it can defrag a single file or folder, say a game directory or a virtual machine image, so a few large files do not require a full pass. Boot time defrag handles files locked while Windows runs, and auto defrag works in idle time and pauses itself when CPU or disk usage crosses a threshold. SSDs get their own SSD Optimize tab that issues TRIM instead of moving blocks.
