Description
You dump a camera card onto your PC and a few thousand photos and videos end up scattered across folders, so finding last summer's beach shot means opening them one by one. Diffractor leaves your files where they are and only indexes the folders you choose, after which you can search by date taken, location, rating or any metadata property in an instant. Originals stay in ordinary Windows folders, are never uploaded and never modified.
It can put two photos side by side so you keep the best one and clear out the rest, and the index flags likely duplicates, which saves the manual comparing when you tidy a drive. It is free and runs with a double click.
Opens nearly any format: RAW photos, JPEG XL, video and audio preview without extra codecs, wide panoramas sweep at full width and 360° photos can be dragged around.
Metadata search: EXIF, IPTC, XMP, ID3 and other common standards are supported, you can search by when a photo was taken instead of when the file was written, and the sidebar groups everything by date, location or file type.
Compare and cull: view photos and videos side by side, mark keepers with ratings, tags and flags, and prune the rest.
Basic edits: crop, straighten, perspective, temperature, tint and automatic color correction, plus adding ratings, tags and locations while the originals stay untouched.
Films and TV view: reads file names or the .nfo files of Kodi, Jellyfin and Emby, shows films by title and year and episodes by season and number, with subtitles during playback.
Browse before importing: flip through a camera card, external drive or any folder without copying, then use Movie mixer to order photos and videos into one MP4 with crossfades.
