Description
Three cameras, one shoot day, and back at the desk the timecode does not line up and all three bodies still report the default name — so syncing in the edit becomes guesswork. Blackmagic Camera Setup is aimed squarely at that: connect a body over USB-C or Ethernet and firmware, timecode, camera ID and default shooting parameters all push across from one window, instead of crouching behind the camera paging through a tiny menu.
It is Blackmagic Design's free companion utility for their Pocket Cinema Camera, URSA, Studio Camera and Micro Studio lines. Firmware for new-format support and stability fixes arrives through it, so owning a BMD camera means using it sooner or later.
Firmware updates: it identifies the connected model and its current version and flashes the new build in one action — new codec support and stability fixes reach the camera this way.
Camera identification: assign each body a name and number that get written into clip metadata, making it obvious in a multi-camera edit which footage came from where.
Timecode and reference: set the internal clock, timecode source and reference signal, so a single sync pass before rolling lets the edit line up by timecode alone.
Default shooting parameters: preset ISO, shutter angle, white balance, recording format and frame rate so the camera powers on in the state you want.
3D LUT upload: push a grading LUT into the body so on-set monitoring carries the intended look, rather than showing directors and clients flat Log footage.
Cross-platform: Windows and macOS builds, released as part of the Blackmagic camera software package.
