Description
With two displays or a pile of windows you always click first to make sure focus is in the right place. Eyeshift is a macOS menu-bar app that watches your webcam so keyboard focus follows your eyes: look at a screen, window or split pane and just start typing.
It needs no extra hardware, only the camera you already have, and is a free, open-source alternative to the paid Glance Switch.
Screens: Turn toward another monitor and focus and the pointer move there.
Windows: Look at another window on the same screen and it comes forward.
Split panes: In iTerm2, Terminal, Ghostty, VS Code, Cursor, Zed, Xcode, JetBrains IDEs and more, focus goes to the pane you look at.
Stays out of the way: It never moves focus while you type, use the mouse or look down at the keyboard.
Learns: It can calibrate from your clicks and typing.
Camera frames are processed in memory with Apple's Vision framework and discarded, with nothing recorded, saved or sent anywhere. The author says webcam gaze tracking is accurate to roughly a thumbnail-sized area, enough to pick a screen, window or pane but not a word. MIT licensed, macOS 14 or later.
