NeatEditor

NeatEditor

Lightweight macOS plain text editor

Description

You just want to jot down two lines, but a heavy editor takes its time to launch and the thought is gone. NeatEditor is a plain-text-only macOS editor: open it and start typing, with the interface kept out of the way.

Built natively with SwiftUI and AppKit, it keeps the title bar, menus and shortcuts Mac users expect, and tab switching feels instant. What earns trust is conservative autosave: blank content never overwrites an existing file, outside changes are merged, and conflicting edits keep both versions.

Features

Multi-tab editing:A ready document on launch, tabs you can rename in place, and near-instant switching and closing.

Open local files:Open from Finder, drag and drop or pasted paths; renaming preserves editable extensions.

Line numbers and find:Built-in line numbers, native find and undo, proper IME handling, and Command plus/minus zoom.

Autosave:Debounced, also on tab switch and app deactivation, with ordered writes so an old save never overwrites a new one.

Pin on top:Keep the window above others while you read; requires macOS 15 or later, MIT licensed.
