Description
The stock Notepad chokes on a log with a few hundred thousand lines, and a full IDE takes a pile of installs and a slow start just to open one file. Notepad4 takes a different road: a Scintilla based text editor for Windows whose archive is barely over a megabyte, runs straight after unzipping, and still carries syntax highlighting, code folding and auto completion for the work you actually do.
It continues the classic Notepad2 with extra features on top: bookmarks, marking every occurrence of a selected word with a match count, color value call tips, and Base64 encoding and decoding. The language list is long, from C/C++ and Python to batch files, CMake and config formats, each with its own highlighting and API hints. A small file browser plugin called matepath ships alongside, and the release page offers x64, AVX2 and ARM64 builds plus localized and HD variants for high DPI screens.
Highlighting and folding: dozens of programming languages and document formats, auto closing of brackets and quotes, and folded blocks that can be previewed on hover
Enhanced auto completion: completes words and function names, offers context based suggestions for some languages and keeps indentation in step
Bookmarks and word marking: bookmark key lines and jump between them, or select a word to mark every occurrence with a count
Color preview: hover over a color value to see the actual color, and click the call tip to open the color dialog
Base64 encode and decode: transform the selected text in place without pasting it into a web tool
Light and portable: a single executable after unzipping with settings kept in an ini next to it, so it rides on a USB drive
Many builds and languages: x64, AVX2, AVX512 and ARM64 builds, Simplified and Traditional Chinese among the UI languages, under the BSD 3-Clause license
