VUPlayer

VUPlayer

Open source multi format audio player

Description

A local music library that keeps growing, with FLAC, Opus and WavPack files all mixed together, tends to meet one of two kinds of player: one that wants a pile of codec packs, or one that opens with a screen of ads and online suggestions. VUPlayer goes the other way. The library tree on the left is already sorted by folder, artist, album, genre and year, the track list sits on the right, and pointing it at your music folder is enough to start listening, with no settings to wade through first.

It is an open source Windows player, maintained by its author under the MIT license. If you want it to look different you can adjust button colors, fonts and the background at your own pace, and if you do not the defaults already work. The zip build run with the -portable argument keeps its database in the program folder, so moving to another PC means copying a folder. Windows 7 SP1 or later is required.

Features

Many audio formats: plays MP3, FLAC, Ogg, Opus and WavPack, and ships with FFmpeg based libraries and libopenmpt so even tracker module files play

Library views: browse by folder, playlist, favourites, artist, album, genre and year, pick an album to list its tracks, and see the current cover art at the bottom left

Customizable look: change toolbar button colors, font style and color, and the background shading, and choose which functions and information appear in the interface

Sound tweaks and visuals: adjust pitch and left right balance, with spectrum and waveform visualisations a click away on the toolbar

MusicBrainz and Last.fm: fills in track details through MusicBrainz when online, and scrobbles your listening to a Last.fm account

Portable mode: launch with the -portable argument to keep settings and track metadata in the program folder instead of the user documents folder, which needs write access there

Favourites and playback controls: heart a track in one click, and shuffle, repeat, previous, next and volume all live on the top toolbar so you rarely open a menu
