Meiro

Meiro

Lightweight YouTube Music Desktop Client

Description

Listening to YouTube Music on a computer means keeping a browser tab open that can eat 600 MB or more of memory, and closing the tab stops the music. Meiro is a native desktop client that never loads the YouTube Music web page and plays the music directly, typically using about 100 MB of memory by its own account.

Since it skips the web page, the page's ads don't show up either. Home recommendations, Explore charts, artist, album and playlist pages are the same content as the web version, and signing in with your Google account brings your personalized Home and Library.

Features

Synced lyrics: The sung line is highlighted as the song plays, with a plain-text view if you prefer.

Music that keeps going: When the queue ends it adds similar songs, and reopening the app restores your queue and song.

Plays with the window closed: On macOS and Windows you can open a mini player from the tray and use media keys and the system Now Playing controls. On Linux the tray only offers Open and Quit.

Equaliser and themes: An equaliser with volume levelling, light, dark or follow-system themes, and colours taken from the album art of the playing song.

Last.fm and Discord: Scrobble your plays to Last.fm and show the current track on Discord.

Listening stats: Listening time by day, kept only on your computer and deletable at any time.

Library management: Like songs, follow artists, save albums and playlists, create or delete your own playlists, and browse podcast shows and episodes.

It is a beta and unofficial. It uses YouTube's private web interfaces, so when YouTube changes them, browsing, search, playback or sign-in may stop working until it is updated. Licensed under GPL-3.0. Download the build for your system from the Releases page; Mac users want the .dmg.
