Monkey's Audio uses the APE format for lossless compression: files come out noticeably smaller than WAV, and decompress bit for bit to the original. Nothing is lost for listening, and you can always turn it back into WAV.
It also handles other lossless formats. ALAC, FLAC, TAK and WavPack can all be compressed and decompressed, which helps when a library mixes formats and you want one standard.
