FileOptimizer

FileOptimizer

Free open source lossless file shrinker

Description

Before a site goes live, images, PDFs, installers and documents pile up and the total weight is a worry. Uploading them one by one to an online compressor is slow and leaks files, and lossy compression risks the quality. FileOptimizer by Javier Gutiérrez Chamorro is a Windows tool where you drop files into the list, click optimize, and they get smaller without losing quality or content, all on your own machine.

It is a single front end that detects each file by content rather than extension, then hands it to one of more than 90 proven optimizers, covering 600 plus extensions such as PNG, JPEG, GIF, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, EXE, DLL, ZIP, MP3, APK and EPUB. Results replace the original file, and the original goes to the Recycle Bin first so you can restore it. It is free and open source, offers a dozen interface languages including Chinese, and has a command line mode that fits into batch jobs and release pipelines.

Features

Lossless optimization: strips redundant data and extra metadata while keeping quality and content identical, typically saving a few percent up to a third or more on common images and documents

Wide format coverage: 600 plus extensions across images, PDFs, Office documents, archives, executables and audio, all dropped in together

Content based detection: a renamed file is not misjudged, and the right tool is used for what it really is

Drag and drop or right click: drop files or folders into the list, or optimize straight from the Explorer context menu

Originals go to the Recycle Bin: optimized files replace the originals, old versions stay in the Recycle Bin for restoring, and the list shows original and optimized size per file

Command line batch mode: accepts command line arguments, so it fits into scripts, scheduled tasks or build pipelines

Languages and options: a dozen interface languages including Simplified Chinese, and options to tune the strength per format and which plugins run
