Description
Laptop speakers sound thin, and a new pair of headphones turns the bass to mud. The three-band equaliser in your player barely helps, and it only applies to that player — switch to a video in the browser or a meeting and you are back to square one.
FxSound sits on the system audio output, so every application passes through it: player, browser, game, conferencing app alike. It gives you a 20-band equaliser plus clarity, ambience, surround, dynamic boost and bass processors, with presets grouped by genre and use case for when you do not want to fiddle. Separate settings can be stored per output device and applied automatically. Formerly paid software, it has been AGPL open source and free since 2022.
Processes everything: Installed as a virtual output device, it treats browser, player, game and meeting audio the same, with no per-app setup.
20-band equaliser: Far finer than the handful of bands in a media player, so a harsh frequency can be cut or missing low end restored, live.
Five effect processors: Clarity, Ambience, Surround Sound, Dynamic Boost and Bass Boost are separate controls, so vocal clarity and low-end weight are tuned independently.
Presets by scenario: Ready-made settings for music genres, film, gaming and speech, and you can save your own.
Per-device settings: Store a configuration per headset, speaker or Bluetooth device and have it applied when you switch output.
Open source and free: AGPL-3.0 since 2022 with the source on GitHub — no paywall, no ads.
