Description
People who want to draw often get stuck at the software: professional painting tools charge by the month, and the free ones ship with a handful of brushes and patchy pen-pressure support. Krita erases that barrier — a professional-grade painting program built for artists, entirely free and open-source, covering digital illustration, concept art, comics and frame-by-frame animation.
From the KDE community, on Windows, macOS and Linux, developed with the involvement of people who actually paint.
Dozens of brush engines: nine brush-engine families and hundreds of presets — oils, watercolor, pencil, airbrush — with every parameter adjustable and savable into your own shareable bundles.
Real pen-pressure support: solid handling of pressure and tilt for Wacom and other tablets, so stroke weight and nib angle respond in real time for a feel close to real paper.
Animation timeline: built-in frame-by-frame animation with onion skinning and a timeline, so a finished still turns into a short animation without switching apps.
Layers and masks: full layers, blend modes, filter masks and layer groups, with vector layers for comic speech bubbles and layout.
Drawing assistants: perspective guides, mirroring and stroke smoothing make clean perspective and symmetrical compositions much less work.
