Subscription lists clear out the common ads; the annoying leftovers are the ones no list covers — a site's own promo slot, the support bubble that follows your scroll, the recommendation block wedged into the homepage. AdBlock's answer is the element picker: click the thing that bothers you and it writes a rule to hide it for good, with no filter syntax to learn.
It is a separate project from Adblock Plus — different author, different codebase — with install counts in the tens of millions all the same. Core blocking is free; Premium only adds themes, image replacement and similar extras.
Element picker: enter selection mode, hover any block to see its outline, click once and it joins the block list — gone on the next visit.
Multiple filter lists: EasyList, regional lists and anti-circumvention rules toggle independently, with third-party subscriptions and hand-written rules also supported.
Video site ads: pre-rolls and overlays on YouTube and similar sites are in scope, so there is no countdown to sit through.
Allowlist and pause: allow a trusted site by page or in full, and pause blocking entirely for a moment without uninstalling the extension.
