Description
Interface design usually means files in someone else's cloud, a canvas that spins when the network hiccups, and a worry that your designs can't leave. FigCraft is a native interface design app written in Rust: no Electron, no web view, it opens instantly and works offline. Files are plain .figcraft archives on your own disk, with no account and no telemetry.
The toolbar, layers panel, Design panel, menus and shortcuts sit where Figma users expect them, so there is almost no relearning. It also opens .fig files (best effort) and designs exported as the public REST API file JSON, with prototypes and variables intact.
Auto layout: both directions, plus wrap and grid (fixed, hug and fr tracks, spanning cells), padding, gaps, text-baseline alignment, min and max sizes, and drag handles for spacing right on the canvas.
Components and variants: main components, instances with overrides, component sets with variant properties, swap, detach and reset; an Assets panel with live thumbnails, search and drag-to-canvas.
Styles and variables: colour, number, string and boolean variables with modes and aliases, edited in a table and bound to fills, strokes, effects and layout grids; one set of colour variables gives you Light and Dark versions of a screen.
Vector networks: Pen, Pencil and shape builder, boolean groups whose operands stay editable, variable-width strokes, outline stroke, arrowheads and dashes.
Prototyping: connect buttons to the next screen in the Prototype tab, set navigation, transitions and back actions, and preview the flow.
Dev Mode: mark frames Ready for dev, add annotations, place redline measurements; the Inspect panel generates React code where component properties become props.
Live sessions and boards: several people edit one file with cursors, selections, cursor chat and spotlight; board files add sticky notes, templates, connectors, a shared timer and voting.
Import, export, automation: SVG, PNG, JPG, WebP and PDF in and out; every menu item is a command, shared by the CLI, a JSON control channel and an MCP server so an agent can drive the same engine.
Platforms and licence: Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD and the web, Apache-2.0, still early alpha.
