Description
Note apps keep getting heavier, long documents start to lag, and syncing usually means handing your writing to a cloud service. Quiet.md takes the opposite route: the whole interface is drawn on the GPU with Rust and GPUI, with no WebView and no Electron. In the author's benchmark, typing, deleting and scrolling in a one-million-character document stay under 6 ms per frame.
The storage is just as plain: every note is one XML file in a folder you own. There is no account, and nothing goes over the network by default. Sync it with Git, iCloud or whatever you already use, and if you stop using the app your files are still right there. Notes are saved as Feishu (Lark) DocxXML, so copy-paste, import and export keep their structure.
Rich-text editing: headings, ordered and bulleted lists, to-dos, quotes, syntax-highlighted code blocks, LaTeX math, tables with merged cells, callouts, columns, images and attachments, with Markdown shortcuts and a slash menu.
Organize and search: a document tree, pinning, favorites, full-text search and a trash, so a growing library stays findable.
Import and export: import Markdown and Feishu DocxXML; export Markdown and PDF, or print directly.
Themes: four built-in styles (Craft, Feishu, Notion and Obsidian), each with a dark variant, or write your own in CSS.
Shortcuts: every key binding can be changed, and Option+Space opens a global quick note on macOS.
In-app updates: an Update button appears at the top of the sidebar when a new version is out; downloads are signature-verified and the check only fetches a version manifest, sending no data.
