UPX

UPX

Executable file packer

Description

A tiny tool of yours ships as a fat binary, and sending it around always comes with an apology. UPX can shrink an executable to half its size or less, and it still launches with a double-click like before.

It is an executable packer whose output unpacks itself in memory at start, so users need no extra step. The compression core is open source, and one command line handles a whole batch, which makes it easy to drop into a build script.

Features

Many formats:Handles Windows PE, Linux ELF, macOS Mach-O and more.

Tunable ratio:Pick anything from fastest to smallest, and use --best when size matters most.

Reversible:The -d flag restores a packed file, handy for comparing and debugging.

Low start-up cost:Unpacking happens in memory and adds only a few milliseconds.

x64 and x86 builds:The release page offers 64-bit and 32-bit Windows zips that run once extracted.
