Rime

Rime

A PDF reader that freezes everything but the page

Description

While you study, desktop widgets, the Dock and the menu bar keep pulling your attention away. When Rime opens a PDF, ice grows in from the screen edges, freezing the desktop and its icons so only the page in front of you is left.

The ice is your own wallpaper, blurred, brightened and given a fine grain, so it always matches your Mac, and it melts when you switch apps. It is PDFKit underneath, so pinch zoom, smart zoom, scrolling and text selection work just like Preview.

Features

Frost from your wallpaper: The ice comes from your desktop picture, grows in from the edges and melts when you switch apps.

Markup: Highlight, underline, notes, rectangles, ovals, lines and arrows in six colors, saved as standard PDF annotations other apps can read, with autosave and undo.

Controls step aside: A Liquid Glass capsule holds page number, zoom, tools and colors, and fades when the mouse rests or you scroll.

Menu bar and Dock: Hidden while you read or kept visible in Settings, and the pages always stay clear of the notch.

Requirements: macOS 14 or later, MIT licensed, installable with Homebrew.
