MacYT

Native Mac interface for yt-dlp

Description

yt-dlp is great, but every download means opening a terminal, remembering flags and checking the available formats, which is a lot of ceremony for saving a conference talk or a podcast. MacYT wraps it in a native Mac interface: paste a link, press Return, look at the video info, pick a quality and click Download, with no terminal at any point.

It is split into two rooms. Studio inspects the link, previews the artwork and title and picks the format. Downloads shows progress and the files you exported. Switch to Audio mode for audio only, and FFmpeg quietly handles merging streams or converting to MP3 or M4A. It is written in SwiftUI, free and open source under the MIT license.

Features

Look before you download: After you paste a link, the title, artwork and duration load first so you can confirm it is the right content before exporting.

Pick a quality or audio only: Lists the available video stream qualities, or switch to Audio mode to export just the audio.

Progress and history: The Downloads page shows running tasks and previously exported files.

Choose where files go: Files are saved to the folder shown in the sidebar, which you can change in the options.

Dependency status: The window shows whether yt-dlp and FFmpeg are ready. Both install with one Homebrew command, and FFmpeg is optional but needed for the best quality and audio conversion.
