Description
A server only has to run Java programs, so a full JDK or a desktop JRE with browser pieces is more than it needs. Server JRE is Oracle's Java runtime built for server deployment: it carries only what is needed to run Java programs and ships as an archive you unpack and use.
Oracle's Java SE 8 archive page currently lists release 8u503 in four archives: Linux x64, Solaris SPARC 64-bit, Solaris x64 and Windows x64, between 53 MB and 65 MB each. The download requires accepting Oracle's license terms, so read the license notes on the official page before using it in production.
Built for servers: meant for deploying and running server side Java programs rather than a desktop installer
Archive distribution: tar.gz and zip archives with no setup wizard, unpacked to any folder you choose
Several platforms: the page lists Linux x64, Solaris SPARC 64-bit, Solaris x64 and Windows x64 builds
Java SE 8: corresponds to the Java SE 8 update 8u503, for services that still run on Java 8
Official license: the license agreement has to be accepted on the Oracle page before downloading
