Description
You downloaded the model, sent it to the printer, and got a mess: overhangs sag, infill is wrong, and every new spool of filament means finding your settings again. The slicing step is where most failed prints begin.
Ultimaker Cura is the open-source 3D print slicer from Ultimaker, and it turns a model into the layered instructions your printer reads. It ships with hundreds of printer and material profiles, so once you pick the machine and the filament the recommended settings are applied and a print is a few clicks away. When you want control, custom mode exposes more than 400 settings.
After slicing, step through the layers in the preview to check supports and paths before sending the job to the printer. It integrates seamlessly with Ultimaker machines and works with other brands too. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and the download link points to the official download page.
Profiles by machine: ready-made settings for hundreds of printers and materials, applied automatically so beginners get a usable result straight away.
Custom mode: more than 400 slicing settings, from layer height and infill to supports and speed.
3D preview: inspect the sliced model layer by layer and catch overhangs, supports and path problems before the print is half done.
Model placement: move, rotate, scale and mirror tools to arrange the model on the build plate before slicing.
Shared profiles: print profiles can be shared within a team, so settings one person tuned can be imported by everyone.
Plugins: add material profiles, post-processing scripts and extra features through plugins and the marketplace.
