Description
Writing Python often means juggling an editor, a terminal, a debugger and a version control client, then bolting plugins together until you have half an IDE. Eric ships the whole thing in one window: editing, debugging, unit tests, refactoring and multi-project management, and it is itself an open source Python IDE written in Python.
The layout is busy, with a project tree on the left, several editor panes in the middle, a code info panel on the right and a task list at the bottom, but every panel can be toggled off. Light and dark themes are included, and since the source is open you can extend it with your own plugins.
Editing and completion: Syntax highlighting, brace matching, code completion and calltips, plus a Jedi powered info panel that shows the docs and signature for whatever sits under the cursor.
Built-in debugger and unit tests: Breakpoints, stepping and variable inspection live inside the IDE, so you do not run tests in a separate terminal and then map line numbers back by hand.
Multi-project and refactoring: Manage several projects in one window, and find rename and extract style refactorings right in the menus.
Version control plugins: Git, Mercurial and Subversion plugins are bundled, so commits and diffs do not pull you out of the editor.
Task extraction: TODO comments in your code are collected into a task list, and one click jumps to the line.
