Description
You are about to sell or give away an old PC, or you just want one contract gone for good, and only after emptying the Recycle Bin do you remember that deleted files are still sitting on the disk for any recovery tool to find. Secure Eraser handles the other half of deletion: it actually overwrites the data so recovery software has nothing to work with.
It offers five erasure methods, from a single random-value pass through US DoD 5220.22-M E / ECE and the German BSI-VSITR standard to the 35-pass Peter Gutmann method, so it can overwrite up to 35 times and follows NIST SP 800-88. Beyond the file contents, it also clears the filename traces left in the NTFS Master File Table and the USN change journal, so nobody can even tell the file ever existed. It is free for personal use and needs a Professional Edition license for commercial use; this entry is the no-install portable build that you unzip and run.
File and folder shredding:Drop files or whole folders into the list, pick a security level, and erase them for good, with the number of overwrite passes shown next to each level.
Drive and partition wiping:Select a drive letter and wipe existing and already deleted files together, with optional MFT and USN journal cleanup.
Free space wiping:Overwrites the leftovers of files you deleted earlier without touching the files you still have.
Registry cleaning:Removes invalid entries and leftover traces from the Windows Registry.
System cleaning:Clears temporary files and browser traces, including the Recycle Bin and browsing history.
Erasure reports:Every run produces a report you can annotate and review in one place, handy as proof of disposal.
