Brave Browser
Chromium browser that blocks ads and trackers by default
Description
The first thing you do on a fresh machine is install an ad blocker. Without one, half a news page is popups, a video carries sixty seconds of pre-roll, and dozens of tracking scripts quietly record where you have been.
Brave builds that step into the browser. Ads, trackers and cross-site cookies are blocked by default with no extension required, and the content it never downloads shows up directly as speed — pages load faster and phones last longer. It is Chromium underneath, so site compatibility matches Chrome and Chrome Web Store extensions install normally.
On top of that sit things other browsers do not ship: a private window that routes through Tor without installing anything, a built-in AI assistant called Leo that summarises the current page without feeding it to model training, plus a wallet and IPFS support. For less noise without any configuration, it works out of the box.
Blocking by default: Shields blocks ads, trackers, cross-site cookies and fingerprinting without an extension.
Faster and lighter: Content that is never downloaded cannot slow the page, and battery use on mobile drops accordingly.
Chromium based: Site compatibility matches Chrome and Chrome Web Store extensions install as normal.
Tor private windows: Open a window routed through Tor without installing a separate client.
Built-in AI assistant: Leo summarises pages and explains selections, and conversations are not used for model training.
Per-site control: Shield strength is adjustable per site, so a page broken by blocking is one click away from working.
