Photos copied from a camera or phone all end up in a folder called DCIM, IMG_0001 through IMG_9999, and six months later finding one trip means scrolling through everything.
WIA-Loader handles the step from camera to disk: set up a source (camera, memory card, phone) and it sorts photos into folders by date, event or camera model, renames them to something meaningful, writes EXIF keywords and geolocation, and can group by similarity to thin out burst shots.
The author frames it as the first half of a photographer’s workflow — capture, import, organise, archive — everything before handing off to Lightroom for editing. Version 2.9.8 speeds up similarity grouping, adds a central AI configuration window and simplifies geocoding to a single dialog. The installer is 291 MB, free from the vendor site.
