Hammerdeck

Hammerdeck

Keyboard window management for multi display Macs

Description

macOS tiles in halves and quarters, which is fine on a laptop and thin on a 49-inch ultrawide. Across two or three displays it is worse: no shortcut at any macOS version sends a window to the other screen. Unplug the external display and everything piles onto the laptop, plug it back and you drag each window home again. Hammerdeck puts all of this on keys, and when a display connects, a rule puts your windows back automatically.

Under the hood is a Lua engine, a bit like a focused Hammerspoon, but you never write Lua: every feature is a card with a switch, some options and a trigger picker. Each shortcut flashes the action it fired, one hotkey rewinds the last rearrangement, and every decision lands in a local plain-text log. Open source and local-first, with no account and no subscription.

Features

Throw and swap across displays: Send the focused window to the next display with the pointer riding along, or swap the windows of two displays in one go.

Window Grid: A hotkey turns the screen into a 3×3, 2×2 or 6-cell grid. Press one cell, then another, and the window fills the rectangle between them, ideal for ultrawides.

Window Deck: One key tiles every window on the screen, focusing one makes it a large centered hero with the rest peeking behind, and the same key restores the layout.

Window Fan: Fan windows against the screen edges so each keeps a visible edge nothing can cover, and click one to switch.

Window Mode: A modal keyboard layer where single keys snap to halves, corners and center, resize and undo, until you press Escape.

Window Rewind: Hyper+Z restores every window the last snap, swap, grid or deck move repositioned, and returns the pointer too.

Rules engine: Rearrange windows on system events like connecting a display, and run context-free actions such as refreshing the wallpaper or opening a set of tabs on a schedule.
