Description
A Mac full of overlapping terminals, browsers and editors means a steady tax of dragging and resizing windows, and anyone used to Niri or Hyprland on Linux feels it even more. OmniWM brings both styles over: every workspace can use either a Niri-style scrolling layout or a Hyprland-style Dwindle layout, so your coding space can be an endless strip of columns while your research space splits itself automatically.
It is free and open source, signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it runs straight after download. Windows can be routed to specific displays across multiple monitors, and a local CLI and IPC interface let you script window actions or wire them into other automation tools. It needs Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later.
Scrolling layout: Windows sit in columns on a strip wider than the screen, new windows open beside the current one instead of shrinking it, and you scroll left and right to move focus, with orientation-aware containers.
Dwindle layout: Binary space partitioning splits the focused area in two for each new window, ideal for keeping several windows side by side.
Layout per workspace: The two layouts are not a global either-or. Each workspace picks its own and can switch at any time.
Overview: Zoom out to see every window in the workspace and click to jump to one.
Multi-monitor routing: Assign workspaces and windows to specific displays by rule, with each screen keeping its own layout.
CLI and IPC automation: Focus, move and switch layouts from the command line or local IPC, easy to hook into hotkey tools and scripts.
