A small company or studio wants mail on its own domain, but hosted business mail charges per seat every year, and Postfix plus Dovecot on Linux means wrestling with config files. hMailServer is a free, open source mail server for Windows: add your domain and accounts in a graphical admin tool and SMTP, POP3 and IMAP are ready for Outlook, Thunderbird or a phone.
It looks plain but covers the essentials: multiple domains, aliases, forwarding rules, anti-spam, virus scanning, and scripts that run custom logic when mail arrives or leaves. Plenty of small teams have run it for over a decade.
