Fifteen years of music, half the filenames are track01.mp3, the album art has holes in it, and the same artist is spelled three ways — so sorting by artist gives you a pile of fragments. MediaMonkey is built for exactly that mess: it looks up missing tags, artwork and lyrics online, then renames and files everything by rules you set, and it does it on libraries of tens of thousands of tracks without falling over.
What separates it from a plain player is the management half. The tree splits music, classical, podcasts, audiobooks, music video and TV, and also browses by folder and by device. Duplicates can be found and merged. Play counts, ratings and last-played dates are kept and feed auto-playlists. Phones and tablets sync over USB or Wi-Fi with transcoding rules applied on the way out, so no separate pre-compressed copy is needed.
