Description
You set up a standard account on the family PC, and now every driver install and firewall tweak means walking over to type the admin password yourself. Handing the password out defeats the whole point. RunAs Tool takes a third route: an administrator stores the credentials once, encrypted, and from then on the specific programs you whitelisted launch elevated from that standard account without the password ever being shown.
It ships as a portable single file — unzip and run, nothing written to the registry, nothing left on the system drive. The grant is narrow, too: you are not handing over admin rights wholesale, you are dragging regedit, the firewall panel or one installer into a list, and everything outside that list stays restricted.
Drag to authorize: drop an exe or shortcut onto the window and it reads the name and icon for you. On the right you set the title, fixed parameters and working directory, then pick the level — run as administrator, run with default rights, or go the other way and drop it to a limited user.
Credentials entered once: an admin picks the account in Select Admin and types the password a single time; it is stored encrypted in the tool's own config, out of reach of the standard user who later clicks the icon.
Verify before launch: each entry can require a file-size check and a file-hash check, so if the target exe is swapped out the launch is refused instead of elevating something you never approved.
Wildcards in the module list: version 1.7 accepts wildcards, so a program whose filename carries a version number no longer has to be re-added after every update.
Shortcuts and portable lists: generate a desktop shortcut for any authorized entry, and export the whole list to a file you can import on the next machine instead of rebuilding it.
Window behaviour per entry: choose whether each program starts normal, hidden, minimized or maximized — handy when the elevated target is a script you would rather not watch flash by.
