ESP-Mosaico

ESP-Mosaico

AI agents build ESP32 hardware

Description

Developing an ESP32 with Claude Code or Codex is rarely hard because of the code. It is the board adaptation, flashing, log reading and endless debugging that keep a human in the loop. ESP-Mosaico, Espressif's open-source modular platform, hands that whole chain to the agent: writing code, previewing in a simulator, flashing and verifying on real hardware.

The core board runs an ESP32-S31 with a 480×480 touch screen. Cameras, sensors, joysticks and LEDs snap on as modules, and several boards can be joined for cross-screen games. Firmware, tooling, the board support package and example projects are all open source.

Features

Chat Coding: the device ships with ESP-Claw, so there is no full toolchain to set up first. Ask for a Tetris game and it generates code for your hardware configuration, builds it and deploys it to the device; keep talking to change it.

Vibe Coding: let a coding agent work on the hardware from your computer. The esp-mosaico-vibe workspace provides a CLI, project creation, simulator preview and device flashing, and run results flow back to the agent. UI and interaction bugs get fixed in the simulator before moving to the board.

Modular hardware: peripherals are added as modules, so sensors and input devices come and go as the project needs.

MCP and skills: a shared Espressif MCP configuration connects Codex, Claude Code and Cursor to the ESP Component Registry.
