Description
Copying foreign-language text into a translator and pasting it back breaks your train of thought, and paid translation plugins keep nagging for a renewal. Read Frog is an open-source browser extension that translates web pages, selected sentences and subtitles on YouTube and Netflix in place, with bilingual side-by-side text, and you pick the model: DeepSeek, OpenAI, Gemini and more.
It goes beyond translation: words you run into can be saved and reviewed as flashcards on an FSRS spaced-repetition schedule. Translation takes the surrounding context into account, so the same word is not forced into one meaning everywhere. It has Chrome, Edge and Firefox builds and is open source under GPL-3.0.
Bilingual pages: translate a whole page with original and translation stacked, or show the translation only.
Selection translation: select a sentence and translate it right away, with context taken into account.
Subtitle translation: works on YouTube, X and Netflix video subtitles.
Flashcards: save new words as cards and review them on an FSRS schedule.
Custom AI actions: configure your own prompts and models as on-demand actions.
Multi-browser: install on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, or load the zip from GitHub Releases by hand.
