Description
Need real rain, street noise or a typewriter for a video? Stock sites often hand you synthetic fakes. Freesound is made of recordings that users captured themselves, over 700,000 of them, including odd ambiences nobody else bothers to record.
Licensing is stated per sound: CC0 is free for anything, CC BY needs credit, and NC tracks are off limits for commercial work. A glance at the tag before downloading saves a takedown later.
Search by tag and waveform: Every sound shows tags, length and a waveform, with in-page playback so you can judge before downloading.
Free account to download: Downloading needs a free account, with no quota.
Clear licences: CC0, CC BY and CC BY-NC are labeled on each sound page; pick the first two for commercial projects.
Upload your own: Good field recordings from your phone can be shared back to the pool.
API and forum: Developers can search sounds through the API, and the forum takes requests for specific effects.
