Description
When a USB drive is formatted by mistake, the files are usually still there and only the index is gone. Unformat USB does exactly that job: it gets back the folders and files lost to a format, free with no limits, and strictly read-only so it never writes to the drive.
It rebuilds the original folder structure, including large files stored in pieces.
Rebuilds folders: With their original names and contents, and you can rescue a folder while the search is still running.
Safe mode: Copies the whole drive to your computer first and works on the copy, recommended if the drive is failing.
Loose files: Files outside any folder come back too, named after their content such as a document's title or a photo's date, without duplicates.
Photos and videos only: If that's all you need, it recovers just those into their own folders.
Deleted files: If you deleted something without formatting, it can find it in its old folder.
Read-only protection: It never writes to the drive and refuses to save recovered files onto it.
It supports USB drives and cards formatted as exFAT, FAT32 and NTFS, with an English, Spanish and Portuguese interface. After a full format that writes zeros, heavy use after formatting, or on SSD/NVMe where TRIM wiped free blocks, nothing may be recoverable. The Windows build asks for administrator rights, and the macOS build is unsigned so the first launch needs right-click Open. Licensed under GPL-3.0.
