Description
Windows Explorer makes you juggle windows, and copying means dragging between two of them. Total Commander puts two file panels side by side: pick in one, drop in the other, and copy or move is a single key press, much faster than dragging once you are used to it.
It has been updated from Windows 3.1 all the way to current Windows. Batch renaming, archive browsing, FTP and many languages are built in, and plugins extend it further. Keyboard-driven operation is why long-time users stay for decades.
Two-pane layout: Two windows side by side, so copying and moving take one step
Batch rename: Change many file names at once with rules
Archives as folders: Browse and extract common archive formats directly
Built-in FTP and sync: Connect to servers, compare and synchronize folders
Plugins: Add file systems, viewers and archive formats through plugins
