Description
Looking at an astronomical image usually means lining up the picture, the catalogues and the coordinates: how bright is this star, what else sits next to it. Aladin is an interactive sky atlas that puts all of that in one window.
It opens astronomical images and then lays catalogues from databases such as Simbad and VizieR over the picture, so you read an object record straight from the map, and SkyBoT covers solar-system bodies. A multi-view split shows several images side by side, and there are tools for measuring distances, photometry and cross-matching.
It is a Java program, and what is provided here is the Windows exe launcher, which needs Java on the machine.
Sky maps and catalogues: Open astronomical images and overlay catalogue data.
Database queries: Connects to Simbad, VizieR and SkyBoT for object information.
Multi-view split: View several images side by side.
Analysis tools: Measure distances, do photometry and cross-match.
