Description

Working the ISS with a handheld radio is rarely about the radio — it is about timing. When does it come overhead, what is the maximum elevation, which uplink and downlink frequencies, how much Doppler to compensate? Checking websites, running orbit calculations and copying frequencies takes long enough to kill the mood. Look4Sat compresses all of it into one phone screen: pick your satellites and it computes every pass over your location for the next ten days, with countdown, azimuth, elevation, a polar track and transponder frequencies on one page.

Data comes from Celestrak and SatNOGS, covering over nine thousand active satellites searchable by NORAD catalog number or name. The orbital maths runs entirely on the device, so it works with no signal in the field as long as the TLE set is refreshed weekly. Open source, GPL-3, and permanently ad-free.

Ten-day pass predictions: positions and passes calculated against your station coordinates, listing what is overhead now and what is coming, each with maximum elevation, range and start/end bearings.

Polar tracking view: an active pass is drawn on a radar-style polar plot showing exactly where the satellite is, with azimuth, elevation, altitude and distance updating live for pointing an antenna.

Transponder frequencies: uplink and downlink frequencies, modes and beacons are listed right under the pass, so there is no second site to copy numbers from.

Map and ground track: current position, footprint and ground track drawn on a world map, making it obvious what the satellite is passing over and when it enters your window.

Nine thousand satellites: the full Celestrak and SatNOGS catalogs, searchable by NORAD number or name and filterable by category such as amateur or weather, with checkboxes to track only what you care about.

Custom TLE import: load your own Three Line Element .txt files to track objects the public catalogs do not carry.

Offline first: all calculations happen on the phone with no network dependency; a weekly TLE update keeps the predictions accurate.
