Doszip Commander

Doszip Commander

Dual panel file manager for the terminal

Description

Copying a batch of files in Explorer means dragging between two windows, and every time your hand leaves the keyboard you slow down. Anyone who used Norton Commander remembers how well two side by side panels with F5 to copy and F6 to move worked, and Doszip Commander brings exactly that into the Windows terminal: two directories sit next to each other and every file operation runs from the keyboard.

It is a portable program under 1 MB. Unzip it and run dz.exe, with no installer and nothing written to the system. The package ships with 7z.dll, so entering a ZIP or other archive feels like entering a normal folder, and you can pack selected files into an archive from the same screen. The source is almost entirely assembly, and it is open source under the GPL.

Features

Dual panel file list: two panels each show one directory, Tab switches between them, folders get their own color, and the arrow keys and Enter handle browsing

F key file operations: copy, move, delete, rename and make directory all sit on F keys in the Norton Commander tradition, so long time users feel at home at once

Archive support: built in ZIP compression and extraction, plus many more archive formats through 7z.dll, so you can pull files out or add files without leaving the panel

Directory compare and file search: compare two directories to see what differs, and search the tree for files by name or content

Command line, viewer and editor: a command line sits under the panels for running commands, and viewers and editors can be bound by extension so you can read and edit without leaving the interface

Customizable: the tools menu, extension associations and settings live in ini files, so a few edits make it your own workspace
