Description
Dragging files between two folders is fine, but the moment you have to watch three or four at once, whether sorting photos, comparing projects or clearing a downloads folder, Explorer needs a row of windows and a lot of Alt+Tab. Q-Dir puts four Explorer views in one window, each with its own address bar, folder tree and tabs, and files drag straight from one pane to another.
It is still built on the Windows file system views, so context menus, drag and drop and previews behave the way you expect, with a few useful extras on top: folder sizes shown inline, colors by file type, status bar totals, and export of a listing to XLS, CSV or HTML. The author states it is free for private and company use, and a portable build is available if you would rather not install anything.
Quad pane view: up to four folders side by side in a single window, several layouts to choose from, and favorite combinations that restore with one click
Tabs in every pane: each of the four panes has its own tabs, so far more than four folders can stay open
Folder size and color filter: folder sizes shown directly, with colors by file extension so things stand out in a large directory
Classic and modern address bar: switch between the two styles, and the folder tree can be shown or hidden as needed
Drag and drop plus clipboard: move or copy between panes and other Explorer windows, with ZIP, FTP and network locations treated as folders
Export and print: save the current listing as XLS, CSV, TXT or HTML, or print what the view shows
Portable and multilingual: an installer and a no install portable build, including an x64 version, with many interface languages
