PsKill

PsKill

Kill processes by name or PID from the CLI

Description

Task Manager says End Task and nothing happens, the process sits frozen, or the one you want gone is on another computer and you would have to remote in first. PsKill reduces that to one command: give it a process name or PID and it ends that process on this machine or on another computer on the network on the spot.

Usage is pskill plus the process name, and when you also want the children cleaned up you add -t to take down the whole process tree. For a remote machine you point at it with \computer and supply -u and -p for the login, and if you leave the password out it asks for one with hidden input, so no plain text password lands in your command history. It is part of the Microsoft Sysinternals PsTools suite, a single exe you copy over with no install.

Features

Kill by name or PID: accepts either, so a hung process Task Manager cannot close goes away with one command

Kill the whole tree: add -t to end the target together with every process it spawned, leaving no orphans behind

Remote kill: use \computer with -u and -p to end a process on another computer on the network

Hidden password prompt: leave out -p and it prompts without echoing, keeping the password off the command line

Portable single file: one exe you can drop into any folder and run from a Command Prompt, with 32-bit and 64-bit builds
