Description
Waiting on one email means keeping a webmail tab open and flipping back to refresh it every few minutes, while closing it risks missing an important reply. Howard is a small tool that lives in the system tray and checks your inbox on a schedule, and when a new message arrives it pops up a tooltip with a sound that names the sender and the subject, so you can decide whether it needs you now without opening a mailbox.
It covers Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, Yandex, Zoho, mail.ru, orange.fr, IBM Notes and more, any IMAP inbox works, and a local Outlook is checked through MAPI. For Outlook.com, Gmail and Yandex the author suggests the IMAP tab with OAuth2 sign in. Clicking the tooltip or the tray icon opens your inbox in the browser or Windows Mail. The program is about 5.6 MB, has a dozen and a half interface languages, and a macOS edition exists.
New mail notification: a tooltip and a sound announce each new message, with the sender and subject shown in the tooltip
Open the inbox in one click: click the tooltip or the tray icon to open your inbox in the browser or Windows Mail
Many mail services: Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, Yandex, Zoho, mail.ru, orange.fr, IBM Notes and others, plus any provider that supports IMAP
Several mailboxes at once: one tab per account, so work and personal inboxes can be watched together
MAPI and OAuth2: a local Outlook is checked over MAPI, while Outlook.com, Gmail and similar use IMAP with OAuth2 sign in instead of a stored plain password
Tray icon styles: several tray icon sets to match your taskbar
Package manager install: available through winget and Chocolatey, with a macOS edition as well
