Description
Want OpenOffice to get a menu of your own, batch-process a pile of documents, or drive Writer and Calc from code? You will not find the entry point in the UI. You go through its UNO component interfaces, and Apache OpenOffice SDK is the development kit for them: headers, IDL definitions, build tools and samples in one package.
You can write in C++ or Java. The samples cover document handling, spreadsheets, drawing and extension packaging, so adapting one is much quicker than starting cold. The bundled reference lists the API object by object, which makes lookups easy while you write an extension.
UNO interface development: IDL files and headers let C++ and Java code work with OpenOffice documents, spreadsheets and drawings
Code generation tools: idlc, cppumaker, javamaker and friends generate type bindings from IDL for your language
Official samples: several buildable examples that cover typical document automation scenarios
Extension packaging: build .oxt extensions to add features to OpenOffice and distribute them
