Description
The modern Windows Start menu opens on a page of tiles and recommendations. Finding an old program means searching first, and Run and Shut down are not where your hands expect them.
Open-Shell brings back the classic-style Start menu: a program list on the left, folder-style cascading menus, and Run, Search and Shut down in their familiar places. It supports Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11, and is the open-source successor to the discontinued Classic Shell.
It goes beyond the menu. Explorer gets a customisable toolbar, the title bar shows the full path with an Up button, and the status bar shows the total size of the selection and the free space on the disk. There are several skins, and the menu buttons and entries can be edited.
Classic Start menu: cascading folder-style menu, with a Windows 7 style or a classic single-column style.
Explorer toolbar: a customisable row of common actions such as cut, copy, paste and delete inside every Explorer window.
Status bar info: total size of the selection and free disk space at a glance, no Properties window needed.
Skins and customisation: change skins, menu items, the Start button icon and hotkeys.
Open source and free: hosted on GitHub and still receiving releases.
