Description
Movies on one drive, shows on another, music and photos scattered across folders - and to play any of it on the living-room TV you first have to plug in a keyboard and mouse.
MediaPortal turns that PC into a remote-controlled home theater instead. It boots into a ten-foot interface where Music, TV, Moving Pictures, Radio, Pictures and TV Shows each get a big tile you can flip through from the couch.
There are two lines: 1.x is the long-running, mature release, and 2.x is a rewrite on .NET 6. Both ship Windows builds. The settings go almost absurdly deep, so skins, library import and playback behaviour can all be tuned to taste.
Tile-based home screen: music, TV, movies, shows, radio and pictures sit on the front page, and the remote's arrow keys walk the whole library.
TV and radio: with a tuner card you can watch live TV, listen to radio and schedule recordings.
Library organising: import video, music and photos and get a cover-art library that shows the whole collection at a glance.
Skins and plugins: swap the look, extend the features with plugins, and replace only the part you do not like.
