Solar2D

Solar2D

Open source Lua 2D game engine

Description

The most tedious part of making mobile games is the rebuild loop: change one line, wait for a build, install it on the phone, then discover you typed the wrong number. Solar2D lets you write game logic in Lua and the simulator refreshes the moment you save, so tuning a value or tweaking game feel gives instant feedback.

It is the open source continuation of the once hugely popular Corona SDK. After Corona stopped being commercially supported, the former technical lead of Corona Labs carried it on, and today it is a fully open source project: one codebase ships to Android, iOS, desktop and even smart TVs.

Features

Live simulator refresh: Save a script and the result appears right away, and the simulator can switch between different phone and TV sizes to test layouts.

One Lua codebase, many platforms: No separate Android and iOS projects, and no need to learn each platform native toolchain.

Plugin ecosystem: The official plugin library covers common needs such as ads, in-app purchases and physics, so you pick them up instead of writing from scratch.

Community code exchange: Code Exchange, forums and Discord mean you are not stuck alone with the docs when something breaks.
