CADCraft

Open source CAD drafting in Rust

Description

You just need to draw a few sheets, yet AutoCAD wants a subscription. Switch to anything else and years of muscle memory — the command line, object snaps, layers — go out the window.

CADCraft is a from-scratch, pure Rust open-source AutoCAD-style drafting app. Type L, press Enter, click two points, type @5<45 and a 5-unit line at 45 degrees appears. The command line with clickable [Keywords], AutoComplete, endpoint/midpoint/intersection snaps, polar tracking, direct distance entry, window and crossing selection and grips all behave the way longtime drafters expect.

No Electron, no embedded web view: one native binary runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and FreeBSD, and a WebAssembly build opens right in the browser. No account, no subscription, licensed MIT or Apache-2.0.

Features

DXF and DWG files: native DXF read and write (ASCII and binary, R12 through 2018); DWG opens and saves through the open-source acadrust library, and you can export SVG and PNG.

Full draw and modify commands: lines, polylines, circles, arcs, ellipses and splines, plus move, copy, rotate, scale, mirror, offset, trim, extend, fillet, chamfer and arrays.

Layers and properties: a layer manager to toggle, freeze and lock layers and set colour and linetype, and a properties palette to edit lineweight, linetype and true colour per object.

Dimensions and text: the full DIM command family with complete dimension styles, associative dimensions that follow the geometry, multileaders, tables, TrueType fonts and MTEXT formatting.

Hatches and blocks: pick-point hatching for walls, plus block creation and insertion — the apartment plan above is built entirely from commands.

Layouts and plotting: paper space with viewports and page setups, plotting straight to PDF, and double-clicking a viewport lets you keep drawing in model space through it.

Drivable by AI agents: every menu item and tool is a command, so an agent can type at the command line like a person, call commands with JSON, inspect the drawing and render it — over MCP or the CLI.
