Thumbico

Thumbico

Extract file icons and thumbnails

Description

When you are building a UI, writing docs or collecting assets, getting the icon of some program usually means installing a resource extractor and digging through its entries. Thumbico skips that: drop a file on the window and it shows the icon Windows uses for it, exported at whatever size you ask for.

It comes as a portable build and an installer; the portable one runs straight from the zip and writes nothing to the registry. You can paste a path, browse folders, pick a size and save the result as an image.

Features

Drag-and-drop extraction: drop any file on the workspace and its icon appears at once, whether it is an exe, a document or a shortcut.

Several ways to open files: besides dragging, use the built-in file browser or paste a full path with file name and extension into the top bar.

Chosen size: pick a pixel size from the dropdown; the window shows both the size you asked for and the one returned, so you can tell whether Windows delivered it.

Save as image: write the icon out as an image file for assets or documents.
