MacMix

MacMix

Menu bar audio mixer

Description

A meeting app drowns out your music, switching between AirPods and speakers means digging through System Settings, and macOS only gives you one master slider when you just want one app quieter. MacMix puts all of that in a small panel in the menu bar.

Open it and system volume, output devices, microphone and input level sit together, with per-app mixing below: turn down the app that is too loud, or boost one up to 200%. When an external display's speakers do not support system volume it falls back to DDC/CI. It is a native menu bar app that updates itself through Sparkle, and per-app mixing plus everything from before 2.0 stays free and open source.

Features

System volume: Adjust the current output device from the menu bar, with DDC/CI fallback for compatible external displays.

Output and input switching: Move between speakers, headphones, AirPods and displays in one click, and handle the microphone and input level in the same panel.

Per-app mixing: Lower a single app, or boost it up to 200% while it is playing.

Menu bar first: Lives quietly in the menu bar, with an optional main window for settings.

Automatic updates: Sparkle checks and installs updates; System Audio Recording permission is only needed for per-app mixing, and macOS 14.4 or later is required.
