Description
Everything finds files by name at absurd speed, but often the name is not what you remember — the penalty clause in a contract from three years ago is. Windows content indexing is too slow to rely on, and opening several hundred Word and PDF files by hand is not a plan.
AnyTXT Searcher builds a full-text index of what is inside your documents. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, plain text, source code and mail all go into the index, keyword queries return in milliseconds, and the pane on the right shows the matching passage in context so you can confirm without opening anything. It parses formats itself rather than relying on Office or Acrobat, and its index stays comparatively small. Wildcards, regular expressions and boolean queries are supported, with filters by type, date and size. The basic edition is free.
Indexes document contents: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, TXT, RTF, CHM, source code and mail bodies — the search is over content, not filenames.
Millisecond queries: Once indexed, results appear as you type across hundreds of thousands of documents.
Context preview: The right pane shows the paragraph containing the match, highlighted, so you confirm the right file without opening it.
Its own parsers: No dependency on an installed Office or Acrobat, and a noticeably smaller index than comparable tools.
Advanced query syntax: Wildcards, regular expressions and boolean combinations, with filters on file type, modification time and size.
Entirely local: Indexing and search happen on your machine and nothing is uploaded, which matters for contracts and financial material.
